Intermediate French Classes

Intermediate French classes are offered on Thursday evenings, from 6:00-8:00 pm.

The Intermediate class is aimed at people who have had two to three years of exposure to French and who are able to describe events in the present, past and future tenses. They should also be able to navigate touristic situations (for example: buying an object, ordering in a restaurant, or asking for directions).

At the end of Intermediate French, students should be able to understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar subjects in work, school, leisure activities, etc.; describe someone’s personality; give advice; report a discourse or event and share opinions; understand and express percentage; write a text about their city or country and its inhabitants; and understand stories based on stereotypes.

In order to complete the Intermediate level, we recommend that students follow up with the Intermediate course Part 2 in the Winter and Part 3 in the Spring.

Not sure if you are an Intermediate? Take a placement test here.

The text required for the class is Alter Ego + 2 : Livre de l’élève + CD, by Annie Berthet, Emmanuelle Daill, Catherine Hugot, Véronique Kizirian, and Monique Waendendries. Students should also purchase Alter Ego + 2 : Cahier d’activités.

AFN also sells new copies of the required material. Students can buy the bundle (book and exercise book) for $45 from their teacher during the first few weeks of classes.

Supplementary materials supplied by the instructor may be used in class.
